Adoption e-Course

The Connected Conversation eCourse is for Adoptees & Their Family Members

We’re in this together.

From tension to connection.

You’re an adoptive parent or family member, or soon to be, and you want to learn everything you can to become the best parent you can be. This self-paced eCourse will help with that, supporting adoptive families as they learn and connect through adoption- and race- related topics.

This is the course I wish my parents had.

This is a also beneficial for adoptees who are beginning to learn more about their adoption narrative and the nuanced complexities within in.

This self-paced eCourse will also help adoptive families learn and connect (despite our different perspectives!), and move us from high-octane tension to a more compassionate sense of awareness and hope regarding adoption-related topics.

Division is overcome by dialogue.

It’s normal and appropriate for a family system to be filled with a diversity in opinions, at all ages and stages, but too often that comes at the expense of our precious relationships with one another.

I believe we can be different. And I’m inviting your family to join that conversation.

You might be an adoptee, hoping to get some dialogue started with your parents, and even learn more about how your personal experience as an adoptee has been shaped by the environment around us, as well as the systems within it.

You might be an adoptive parent, taking another step in your lifelong journey of learning and education on behalf of your children or future children, even wondering how to invite extended family members or in-laws into these kinds of spaces.

You could be a mental health professional or child welfare worker, looking for ways to provide psycho-education to families in creative way, and initiate discussions that are typically emotionally charged or polarizing.

Maybe you’re a teacher, and looking for ways to introduce marginalized topics to your colleagues or your students.

*Here’s how we’ll get there:

12 weekly learning modules: each family member can participate in these bite-sized learning objectives at their own pace. You can plan for about 15-30 minutes each week, totally worth it for the ones you love. We’re also in the middle of uncharted times, so you can decide when and how to access these given your particular situation.

12 facilitation videos: sometimes it helps to see your discussion guide in person! In each weekly learning module, you’ll receive a brief message and encouragement from me that will set up that weeks conversation material (if you’re meeting me for the first time, welcome! you can find more about my background here).

Hand-selected family conversation materials: from my experience as an adult adoptee, and an individual, group and family therapist, I’ve taken time to research, review, and collect a broad range of data. I’ve organized it into a virtual library; a basket of resources that your family can digest together each week.

Weekly discussion guides: after you’ve taken time to access the conversation materials, each week you’ll complete a unique and simple discussion guide. These are different each week for a total of 12 Weekly Discussion Guides.

Invitation and Response Templates: each week these templates will help you draft a short message to send to your family member for them to see, read, think about, and respond to.

RSVP to Connected Conversation Conference (C3): I’ll be hosting this virtual conference near the end of the year (date/time TBA) for all families to join and process this experience together. This is an optional event and all family members and relatives are invited! These will be hosted twice per year, so whatever time of the year you begin the conversation series, there will be an available conference for you to attend 🙂

I wish these kinds of things existed when I was younger.

Can’t go back in time, so I’m making it now.

And now, so are you.

Can’t wait for us to get started together, see you soon!

Imagine treating a family member to a fresh cup of coffee once a week for a season, getting to know one other just a bit more, this is around the same price. Folks can pool together on this but I especially encourage moms and dads to make this purchase on behalf of their children if possible. Sends the message that even in the adult years you’re committed to the lifelong journey of learning as an adoptive parent.
