I’m so grateful for the chance to bring more layers of adoption literacy into the Minneapolis community. Thank you to Susan Littlefield and the team at CBS/WCCO for inviting me in for the second time; this interview to ask a bit more about The Adoptee’s Journey recently published through IVP.
For those just tuning in to my account (welcome!), what I’m hoping to do with the book is challenge the idealized view of adoption as a one-time joyous event – we’re offering resources to help folks navigate lifelong complexities, ruptures, and challenges… realities that plead with us to exercise a profound humility and respect – that the process deserves – as we seek to support those impacted by adoption, adoptees especially.
Our lives typically don’t begin with our adoptive parents, regardless of how much they love us. Children should have the chance to make sense of that throughout their lives.
I’m cheering for adoptees (and those who support us!) to either enter that conversation for the first time or to press on however long they’ve been a part of it.
