Cam’s Response to, “Imagine Being Adopted and Complaining About It.”

[full CBS interview here] As I shared in my stories yesterday, I’d usually stay clear from this sort of feedback loop – but/and I’ve sat with too many adoptees young and senior to ignore such behavior following the context of my recent interview.

And this isn’t just an online troll thing. “Sinkingbugger” is merely an avatar. A reduction. A spirit of the times. It’s woven into the fabric of the modern adoption paradigm because it has yet to be disarmed on a larger scale.

Adoptees and our allies are trying to change that.

The final slide was a gift (thank you!!) and I include it here as a reminder; an encouragement and validation for the adoptees past and present who’ve been able to press on through their lived experiences. I couldn’t do this work without first learning from y’all. There are also those navigating their process privately, offline and/or unseen. You count. We all do.

How many adoptees could still be with us today if they were simply given the avenues to speak without the intimidation of this brand of one-dimensional dialogue…

Is it a sin to imagine being alive in such a world?
