Adoptee’s Letter to Future Adoptive Parents

Adoption is complicated. Grieving is, too. They go together because at some point, a family is pulled apart. Let’s continue to normalize that tension, so that others might find the courage and hope to walk through it.

I wrote this letter in collaboration with Hannah @_heytra – for her Standing in the Gap workbook (amazing resource for trans-racially adoptive parents, pleeeeease check it out!).

The letter here is inspired largely by elements from my own adoption journey, but it’s flexible enough I hope to shine some light into yours💌

Please find more incredible resources for transracial adoption at Hannah’s site.

You might also find my recent eLearning on Birth Family & Culture helpful in bringing this discussion to your family and community.

Thank you so much for taking time to be here. I’m convinced you’re making a difference by listening, and even more by allowing the ones under your care to feel heard👶🏻🎙
