In Campfire Workshop it’s been a privilege to sit with families for 12 weeks at a time, hearing their stories and working together to understand and empower the children under their care.
With the nature of unpredictable and fast-paced schedules, some families have expressed a need for something different, and that’s what 2-Night Adoption Informed Training hopes to address.
Two-Night is a combination of therapeutic discussion and trauma-informed education; you’ll meet together with other families via Zoom and work together with Cam through adoption-centered themes and interactive dialogue.
It’s the same vibe as our 12-week cohort, only carved out into a perfectly paced 3-hour experience, split between two evenings. Themes continue to include loss/grief, relinquishment from biological family/culture, race and anti-racism, trauma and healing, attachment, identity, and protected/brave space for Q&A with Cam.

Here’s what participants have said about our time together:
“Being on video with others drove a sense of connection and community. The resources are fantastic! I’m still digesting some of it and I love that we have access to it for additional time.”
“Cam’s approach, knowledge base and delivery was outstanding. He made very complex information and hard subjects digestible and relatable.”
“I felt the reading material was very good and valuable.”
“I really appreciated the pace of the class. The resources that we reviewed during class, as well as the resources that were sent out after class, are really helpful. I so appreciated getting to meet with other parents who are on the same journey and hear them talk about the same concerns and hopes for their child as I have. I really appreciated your clear and direct responses. Somehow in a short class, you found space to speak to each family’s unique situation.”
“Hearing Cam’s responses to our questions, seeing other people’s faces and hearing parts of people’s stories.”
“We really appreciated that there was a good mix of discussion and teaching time, and that the resources were geared to be applicable to such a wide variety of experiences and stories represented in the group. That could not have been easy to do with a group of ten & even more children’s stories, yet our family felt seen and accommodated based on our registration information!”
And a few last thoughts (thank you for this feedback y’all!)
“I so appreciated this class and I’m excited to be involved in more in the future. There was so much power in this class that it’s helped me to understand how important it will be to find an adoption-informed counselor for my family.”
“Hope for more of these in the future with other related topics! Would definitely join another workshop.”
“You’re an excellent presenter and I really appreciate following your Instagram. I listen to you with tremendous conviction that inspires me to greater awareness.”
“Thank you for being a safe place for all members of the family. I appreciate your tone and knowledge.”
“I really appreciated the acknowledgement that “adoption is never finished” paired with the hopefulness of healing for our kids.”
“I love your approachable, non-judgmental approach. It allows us to feel how we feel while keeping our children’s best interest in mind concurrently.”
“I really appreciate your support and so the resources you shared. It was time well spent!”

Cam, author of This is Why I Was Adopted, is an internationally recognized thought leader on adoption and mental health. Trans-racially adopted from Korea and founder of Therapy Redeemed, he holds a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a licensed professional clinical counselor. Cam is PACC certified, and registered as an accredited service provider through TAC via Center for Adoption Support and Education. He is also a vetted clinician with MN ADOPT.
In addition, he is trained in biblical counseling, certified in non-violent crisis intervention and is a member of the American Psychological Association’s Minority Fellowship Program. Cam’s mental health and education services are accessible 100% online and uniquely tailored for individuals and families on the adoption and permanency spectrum.
In 2012, Cam located and met his Korean mother in Seoul after a five-year search. The critical support from adoptee community during that season spurred his decision to walk with others while they too explore and process their intersecting identities.
Cam went on to direct Holt International’s summer camp in 2014 and throughout the past decade has been involved with organizations around the world. He has presented trainings and workshops in a variety of professional and clinical settings.
